Bernadette Marie Wilczynski (Azbart) passed away surrounded by her children, December 15, 2018 at Newbridge on the Charles in Dedham, Massachusetts. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 2, 1934 to Mary and George Azbart. She married Robert Wilczynski in 1956, after having met him at Mercy Hospital where she was a registered nurse, and he, her patient.

Together, they raised four children. Bernadette was a devoted wife and mother, returning to work when her children were grown, as the attending nurse at the Child Study Institute. Bernadette will be remembered for her love of life and nurturing touch while worrying about everyone’s well-being.

She loved to laugh. She loved to sing. She loved to care for her grandsons who sweetly called her “G-ma” and “NaNa”.

She loved the holidays and hosting a great party. She loved her faith. She loved animals and family pets, forming a sweet bond with her canary, Louie.

She loved the seasons. She loved sports, cheering on Notre Dame, Michigan or any Boston team, especially her beloved Red Sox. She loved QVC fashion and jewelry.

She loved scrabble and puzzles. She loved General Hospital. She loved chocolate, a Dunkin’ coffee and a Jameson cocktail.

But more than anything, she loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her son Bill, daughters Carol (Joe), Cathy (Measie) and Caryn (Jamie); seven grandsons Justin (Marissa), Jon (Cherise), Jeremy (Molly), Cam, Quinn, Cody and Kaden; one great-granddaughter Kennedy Lynn; and by many nephews and nieces who lovingly remember their Aunt Bernie as being a ball of fun. She was preceded in death by parents Mary and George Azbart, little brother David, sisters Mary Ann, Loretta, Florence and husband Robert.

Bernadette will be deeply missed by her family and the caring professionals at Newbridge. She made new friendships during her extended stay in Massachusetts and brought joy to so many. She would want any memorial to her to be directed to The Jimmy Fund, a charity which supports adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
