OBITUARY Bernice Anita Ashmore August 28, 1921 – November 22, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Born in Los Angeles California in 1921, Bernice Ashmore passed away on Thanksgiving Day at her home surrounded by her family. Bernice put herself through college at USC by tutoring American actress Mary Ellen “Mala” Powers and it was while she was at USC she met her husband John. They married and after John’s Naval service settled in the San Gabriel Valley.

She worked as an accountant, but then shifted her focus to her children and volunteer work. She served as volunteer at Huntington Memorial Hospital and also was a regular, working and eventually managing Polling Stations for local, state and national elections. An avid gardener, Bernice was also an accomplished painter working in water color, acrylic and oil paint mediums.

A talented cook, serving delectable home-cooked meals that delighted many, Bernice was a quintessential hostess and often the life-of-the-party with her vivacious personality and enduring warmth. Bernice is survived by her husband, John Benton Ashmore; children Anita Marie Alkire and son-in-law JR Alkire, Lisa Ashmore Feldman and son-in-law Shimon Feldman and Mark Donald John Ashmore and daughter-in-law Kathy Wayne Ashmore, as well as 6 grandchildren. Her service will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 from 2 – 4 p.m. at Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary.
