A homegoing celebration for Ms. Bertha Calloway of Tampa who passed away Friday, October 26, 2018, will be held Saturday, November 3rd 2:00 p.m. at Holsey Temple CME Church, 3729 N. 15th Street, Pastor Anita Williams, with Min. Tommie Smith, officiating. Bertha Calloway was born to the late Aaron and Caldonia Calloway on Feb.

2, 1942 in Midway Alabama. She was the youngest of 11 children. Bertha grew up and was educated in Midway, graduating from the historic Merritt High School, continuing to receive her Secretarial Certificate from Tuskegee Institute.

After graduation, she became the secretary at Merritt High. She relocated to New York where she continued her profession as a secretary. She retired from The New York Board of Education and relocated to Tampa, Florida in 2004.

Bertha began her spiritual journey at St. James CME in Midway at an early age. As she transitioned to different places, she always remained in a Christian environment. Upon moving to Tampa, she established her membership at Holsey Temple CME, where she served faithfully as a member of the Senior Ministry until her health failed.

After a lengthy illness, Bertha transitioned this life to a higher plane. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Aaron Calloway, JD Calloway, Willie Calloway and Charles Calloway; sisters, Susie Mae Christian, Lillie Bee Smith, Fannie Sims and Louise Calloway. She leaves to mourn her passing her niece, Chandra Calloway (Tampa); two sisters, Alice Palmer (Miami) and Ruth Davis (Sarasota); two sisters-in-law, Nancy Calloway (Sarasota) and Deborah Calloway (Chicago), a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.

The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
