OBITUARY Bessie Jewel Holland Van Slyke October 24, 1922 – January 28, 2019 Our sweet mother, Bessie, departed this earth peacefully to rest in the arms of her Lord and Savior on January 28, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William “Ray”; her brothers, Edgar Holland, Joe Holland, George Holland; her sister and best friend, Mae Holland Hickman; and her sons-in-law, Douglas Webster and Wayne Boatman. Bessie leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Ray (Diana) Van Slyke; daughters, Nancy (Steve) Thomas and Valerie Boatman; and one grandson, Tony (Georgiana) Webster.

She was an active member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church for 15 years and was active in her earlier churches: Toulminville Baptist and Woodmont Baptist. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Dauphin Way Baptist Church, with a funeral service at noon. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway.

Pallbearers are Steve Walker, Vaughan Drinkard, Charles Gurganus, Tony Webster, Shea Allen, and Barton Hickman.
