Betty Adkins Thomas, 88, of Christiansburg, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019, after battling Alzheimer’s for 12 years. She was born in Walton, VA on September 24, 1931 to the late Frank and Mary Adkins. She was preceded in death by C.E. ‘Jabe’ Thomas, her loving and devoted husband of 65 years; brothers and sisters, June, Charlie, Bob, Dot, Arlene, and Chris.

Betty was also preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Mathia Thomas, who was like a second mother and best friend. She is survived by one son, Ronnie Thomas and daughter-in-law, Ruth; as well as several nieces and nephews. As a teenager Betty began babysitting until she met Jabe, and they married on July 16, 1950.

Betty went to work at Imperial Reading (Blue Ridge Overall Factory) for over 30 years and worked at Federal Mogul until retirement. Betty had many friends throughout her lifetime from her work and during her husband Jabe’s and son Ronnie’s racing careers. She was a longtime member of Harbor of Hope Pentecostal Church; she loved Jesus and loved singing in the choir.
