Betty Semmel, 87 formerly of Woodward, passed away on June 12, 2018 in Bald Knob, Arkansas. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 20, 2018 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Betty Ann Semmel was born on July 19, 1930 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Russell Christy and Hope (Chase) Van Nostrand. Betty was united in marriage to Bob Lee Semmel on August 14, 1949 in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, they made their home in Woodward.

They were blessed with four children, Harry; Vanette; Steve; and Bob. Betty was very active in the Woodward community, she was director of the Plains Indian and Pioneer Museum for several years. She also worked at Trego’s Westwear, and Discover World Child Care.

She enjoyed painting, playing bridge with friends, and collecting thimbles. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught Kindergarten for several years. Betty is survived by her children, Vanette Evans and husband C.B. of Bald Knob, Arkansas; Steve Semmel and wife Linda of Woodward; Bob R. Semmel and wife Debbie of Enid; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Hunter and husband Everett of Woodward; Jean Brown of Hot Springs, Arkansas; brother, R.C. Van Nostrand and wife Billie of Edmond; other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Harry; sister, Ruth Wilson; grandson, J.B. Semmel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Plains Indian and Pioneer Museum or the Trinity Lutheran Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
