Betty M. Farmer, 86, of Rock Island, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 10th at Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave. , Rock Island.

Private inurnment will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Chippiannock Heritage Foundation. Betty was born December 23, 1932 in Rock Island, a daughter of William and Meuhyral (Lage) Garrison.

She graduated from Rock Island High School and then graduated from Illinois State University. Betty earned her master’s degree in teaching from Western Illinois University. Betty married Don Farmer on April 2, 1955 in Rock Island.

She was a teacher for over 30 years in the Moline School District. Betty worked with deaf, hard of hearing and learning disabled students in the special education department. She retired in 1993.

In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting. Betty was a member of the Andalusia chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Knitting Guild and Women’s Home Extension. Betty was very proud of her family and her profession; she made sure everyone knew it.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don; children, Kevin (Brandy) Farmer, Davenport and Samantha (Bryan) Pulliam, Pekin; grandchildren, Sean (Brittny ) Condon, Ian Farmer, Timothy Schemel, Lane Farmer, Nicolas (fiancé, Ayla) Schemel; step grandchildren, Joseph Bedwell, Ryan Bedwell, Brenna Cox and Mackenzie Timm; great grandchildren, Colton Cox and Emmilyne Bedwell; brother, Gerald (Roberta) Garrison, Coal Valley and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
