Vaness 93 of Menominee passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Atrium Post Acute Care. She was born on August 8, 1925, to the late August and Edna (Rugg) Schultz. She married Harry Vanness on November 18, 1940, at the age of 15.

He preceded her in death on September 24, 1984. Betty was a stay at home mom for many years and later worked for Vernco and Lloyd Flanders. She enjoyed hunting, going to the casino, bingo, and playing cards, especially with a group on Saturday nights.

She loved to spend time with her family and special time with her great granddaughter, Kendall. Betty is survived by two sons, Harry “Butch” (Edie) Vaness and August (Raedean) Vaness; five daughters: Verna Mason, Nancy (Paul) Hoffman, Janice (Joseph “Little Butch”) Brunette, Lorri (Scott) Melchoir, and Rose Vaness; 23 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Gaber and Ruth Gorecki; and special friends: Gary Collins, Dolly Dulak, Kathy St. John, and Kathy Menard. In addition to her parents and husband, Harry, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother, and four sisters.

Per Betty’s request no services will be held. Thielen Funeral Home is assisting the family. The family would like to thank BAMC: ER, ICU, and 3rd Floor nurses and staff; nurses and CNA at Atrium, and Unity Hospice and UP Health & Hospice for all of the compassionate care given.

In lieu of flowers any monetary donations may be directed to the Emergency Rescue Squad in Betty’s name.
