Betty Lois Whitworth, age 74 of McDaniels, KY died Thursday, November 15, 2018 at her residence. She was born in McDaniels, KY on May 29, 1944, the daughter of the late George Wesley and Rudell Eula Buckhead Allen. Betty was retired teacher in the Breckinridge County School system, having taught at Custer Elementary and 18 years at Ben Johnson Elementary.

She was a member of Hudson Community Church where she was very active until her illness progressed. She was a former Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School director and teacher of the Adult class and prepared the monthly newsletter for the church. She was a former Beta Club sponsor, attended the Kentucky Christian Writers Conference and received the Outstanding Educator Award.

Betty spent many hours volunteering for the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society and St. Jude. She was responsible for raising funds for a blanket warmer at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital ER. Betty was a published author and worked for the Breckinridge County Herald News since 1980.

She established a writers group known as the Word Knitters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband David Whitworth. Betty is survived by her daughter Karen Horton of McDaniels, KY 1 aunt – Lois Wright of Crestwood, KY 2 brothers-in-law: Lowell Whitworth of Hardinsburg, KY and Billy Whitworth of Garfield, KY 2 sisters-in-law: Nadine Galloway of Westview, KY and Linda Tucker of McDaniels, KY many nieces and nephews Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 11 AM with Rev.

Jimmy Tucker officiating. Burial will be in the Hudson Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, 4-8 PM and Tuesday after 8 AM.
