Betty R. Ulstad, 86, of Marshalltown, IA, and formerly of Fort Dodge, IA, died Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 402 N. 8th Street, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will take place in North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Betty was born January 27, 1933, in Webster City, IA, the daughter of John and Frieda (Waggoner) Allen. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1950, and continued her education at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, IA. On February 27, 1954, she was united in marriage to Robert Ulstad in Webster City.

Over the years, she was a homemaker who also worked as an RN for Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines and Dr. John Sear in Fort Dodge. Betty was an avid reader who enjoyed traveling, taking care of her pets and spending the summers at their family cabin on Twin Lakes. She also enjoyed spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where she volunteered for the Befriender Program. She was also a Docent at the Blanden Memorial Art Museum. Betty is survived by 2 children: Sarah Summers and husband Jerry of Marshalltown and Steven Ulstad and wife Jane of Dubuque, IA; 7 grandchildren: Rebecca Giese and husband Aaron, Kathryn Helgens and husband Kory, James Ulstad and wife Morgan, Peter Ulstad and fiancee Alysa, Nick Summers, Caleb Summers and Hannah Summers; 6 great grandchildren (with 1 on the way): Sam, Lily and Elliott Giese, Khloe and Klaire Helgens and Elodie Ulstad; and 1 sister: Sondrae Fort and husband Ron of Iowa City, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1993; and a sister: Sherry Welsh. Betty has woken up in a more beautiful place and is reunited with her husband Bob.
