OBITUARY Betty Sue Johnson Campbell March 22, 1927 – December 31, 2018 Charlotte – Betty Sue, 91, passed away peacefully on December 31st, 2018, at Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro, NC. She was surrounded by her family and longtime caregivers before going to Heaven. Thanks to the staff at CRRC for their care over the past two years and to the staff at Hospice of Randolph County.

She was born on March 22nd, 1927, in Chattanooga, TN, and was one of ten children born to the late Jerry Johnson, Sr. and Lena Kelley Johnson Walker. Betty Sue grew up in a loving Christian home. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, and friend to many.

She loved working at National Gypsum (Gold Bond Building Products) in the Credit Department in Charlotte and retired from there. She loved her church, First Baptist in Charlotte, and was faithful in her service there and throughout her life in many other locations. She was a prayer warrior and a strong and faithful servant.

Betty Sue loved singing in the church choir, solos, trios, duets, etc. She had a beautiful voice. She is now singing with the angels in Heaven.

She and Harry loved taking trips with the church seniors, planned and executed by Michael Cummings. Betty Sue also enjoyed the trips with Harry to the mountains and beach and especially their trip to Hawaii. She was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed sharing her recipes with others.

Betty Sue was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, S. Harry Campbell, and siblings, L. J. Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Willous Johnson, Beatrice Tallant, Kenneth Johnson, Alvin Johnson and Oletta Williams. She is survived by daughters, Virginia Lynn King of Winston-Salem, NC and Pamela Shue Gibson of Lancaster, SC; along with three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Lisa King Smiley and son Stuart of Winston-Salem, Charles King (Shannon) of Raleigh, and Kelly Shue (Cheree) of WV and daughter Courtney and son Alec of NC; as well as sisters, Izetta Lawrence and Barbara Brown (Dennis) of Cleveland, TN; along with nephews and nieces and their children. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5th, 2019, at Harry & Bryant’s Chapel in the Oaks, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC.

Officiating will be Michael Cummings, Associate Pastor with First Baptist Church Charlotte. Receiving of friends and reception will follow the service. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn East, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive in Matthews.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice, or charity of choice.
