Bath – Betty McInnis, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Horizons Living and Rehab Center in Brunswick, Maine on October 30, 2018. Betty was a long time resident of Bath. She was born in Exeter, England to Florence and Gilbert Whitford.

She was predeceased by her sisters Winnie Steans of Adelaide, Australia and Patricia McGuire of West Bath, Maine and her oldest son Ralph E. McInnis Jr. of Bowdoinham, Maine and her loving husband of 58 years Ralph E. McInnis Sr She was educated in her hometown of Exeter and worked at Dolcis Shoes in London when she met her future husband Ralph E. McInnis Sr. during his tour in England in WWII. They were married in Exeter in 1948 and then moved to the US to settle in Ralph’s hometown of Bath, Maine.

She is survived by her daughters Betsy Munsey and husband Doug of Topsham, Kathy DeCourcy and husband Peter of Topsham, Gloria McInnis and husband Ron of Saco, Nancy Stover and husband Paul of Wiscasset, Anita Soule and husband Tim of Wiscasset, Mary McLean of Waldoboro, and Christine Morse of Freeport, and daughter in-law Callie McInnis of Bowdoinham, and sons Patrick and his wife Lisa of Brunswick and Jeffrey and his wife Kim of Roanoke, Virginia along with 24 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild and several nephews. Betty was known for her compassion and putting others first. She is described by her granddaughter and great grandchildren as representing “Christmas”.

She was kind, giving, loving, accepting, and faithful. Her family was her life. She was a fulltime stay it home mother for most of her life with endless busy days raising a family of ten.

Betty worked in the cafeteria at Fisher School and she enjoyed volunteering in the community including at Midcoast Hospital coffee shop and was a member of the Emblem Club and the Daughters of Isabelle. Her hobbies included line and tap dancing, being a mermaid at the YMCA, reading the newspaper, both morning and night, or a mystery novel while sipping hot tea, and sharing wine and time with family and friends. She was an active traveler with her husband to Cairo, Egypt, Adelaide, Australia, England, Ireland, Branson, Missouri, Prince Edward Island, Las Vegas, and spent several springs in Florida.

She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was proud to become an American US citizen in 1983. She will be dearly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association and Chans Hospice of Brunswick.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Nov 5, 2018 from 4:00 – 6:00pm at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High Street, Bath. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Nov 6, 2018 at 9:30am at All Saints Parish, St. Mary’s Church, 144 Lincoln Street, Bath. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
