Obituary for Beverley Mae Skinner Beverley Mae Skinner, born in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 12, 1932, died May 27, 2018 at North Colorado Medical Center. Beverley was a graduate of North Park Academy in Chicago and subsequently attended Wheaton College. She married Howard Skinner on June 8, 1951 and was the mother of three children, Teresa, Kent, and Diana.

Although her true calling involved nurturing her family and managing the household, Beverley held various executive positions in the arts and worked extensively with underserved communities, including as Director of the Creative Arts Center, Administrator of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, President of the Philharmonic Guild, and as a member of the management team at WIRS. Throughout her 66-year marriage, Beverley was an active partner in her husband’s work and musical activities. At the University of Northern Colorado, she provided administrative support to the Choral, Opera, and Orchestral Departments.

She also logged countless hours of service with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra and Choralfest during her husband’s tenure. Beverley lived her life surrounded by music and musicians. She rarely missed a performance in which her husband was involved, and vigilantly managed the musical studies of her children.

A proficient musician in her own right, she deflected any question of her musicianship by stating simply that she was a “professional listener”. Her seemingly unending capacity to put others center stage while offering encouragement and support was her most defining characteristic. In addition to being thought of as a compassionate and generous person, Beverley will be remembered as a voracious reader, a gracious hostess, and a superb cook.

Her physical beauty was surpassed only by her warm and magnetic spirit. Beverley was preceded in death by her parents and older sister. She is survived by her husband, three children and their spouses, five grandchildren, her brother, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In recognition of her request, a private family service will take place at her beloved Lake Michigan later this summer. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Beverley Mae Skinner please visit our Sympathy Store.
