Obituary for Beverly Ryan Larmee BEVERLY RYAN LARMEE, 71, of Simpsonville, Kentucky, passed away October 9, 2018, at Baptist Health Louisville, following a lengthy illness. She was born on November 13, 1946, in Ashland, Kentucky, to the late James Joseph Ryan and Carolyn Craven Ryan. She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Raymond Louis Larmee, her two daughters, Meghan Rae Larmee (John) Hall and Margaret Kendall Larmee, and her granddaughter, Victoria Rae (“Tori”) Hall.
Bev graduated from Holy Family High School, attended Ashland Community College and the University of Kentucky, where she met the love of her life. Together Bev and Ray personally renovated homes in Louisville and Middletown before settling on historic property in Shelby County. Bev directed every aspect of renovating their historic home, and spearheaded the effort to have her homestead recognized and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In her career as a secretary, Bev worked at the University of Kentucky College of Law and the University of Louisville. Always supportive of her husband’s career and sharing his entrepreneurial spirit, in 1982 Bev co-founded Larmee Equipment & Supply Company, working diligently both on site and behind the scenes to ensure the success of the business. Bev loved to travel, both within the United States and abroad.
Extremely proud of her Irish heritage, she especially loved visiting Ireland, and had a special fondness for Italy as well. An avid gardener, excellent cook and supremely gracious hostess, Bev welcomed everyone with joy and a smile. She was a passionate University of Kentucky sports fan, faithfully attending every UK home football game from the very opening of Commonwealth Stadium, where tailgating friends became part of her family.
She was proud to be a University of Kentucky Fellow. Above all, Bev was a devoted wife and mother who supported her husband and daughters in all their endeavors, always putting the needs of her family above her own. Bev was the backbone of her extended family, the one who cared for aging parents, remembered every birthday and hosted every gathering.
She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Additional survivors include her brother, James Joseph (Patsy) Ryan of Ashland, her sister, Catherine Ryan (Kenneth) Meng of Lexington, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as her devoted canine companions Daisy, Millie and Lila. Services will be held at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, Middletown, Kentucky, on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at 5:00 p.m., with visitation from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.
