Obituary for Bobby Jack Thompson Bobby Jack Thompson (Bob), 83, of Garland, TX, passed away on May 18, 2018. Cause of death was old age and smoking since the age of 8, but he would argue his health went south when Donald Trump was elected as President, much to the dismay of his children. If you knew Bob, you knew his sense of humor was one of his most gifted talents which was with him to the end.
His ability to turn daily mundane tasks or even a sacred event into a humorous story could not be matched. The memorial service will be held at 10AM Saturday, June 2nd, at Faith Presbyterian Hospice with a reception following. Bob was born in Dallas, TX on November 24,1934.
He joined the US Airforce at the end of the Korean War in 1953 and served in Alaska, where he learned to be a draftsman and just how miserably cold it could be on earth. His hope was to be the first college graduate in his family, but instead he sacrificed his zeal for a college education for the zeal of raising his children. Bob worked as a draftsman for most of his life after serving in the US Airforce.
He enjoyed painting, drawing, carpentry, arguing with his youngest daughter about politics, and playing, teaching, watching, talking about or hearing a good story about anything related to the sport of golf. Many golf clubs have suffered the fate of being wrapped around a nearby tree when they did not cooperate with his preferred intentions in the pursuit of this most relaxing sport. He also bought a lotto ticket every Thursday, which provided a multitude of imaginings that thoroughly entertained him throughout the week of what he would do with his winnings.
He was also a member of Saturn Rd. Church of Christ, so he may be a little disgruntled that it was mentioned that he smoked and bought lotto tickets, forgive us Dad. Bob is survived by sons Kenneth, Bobby D., David M. and David W., and daughters Karen Korras, Barbi Cunningham, and Kelsie Hebert and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and other family and friends.
Bob is preceded in death by parents Jack and Evelyn Thompson, and brothers Jerry and Ricky Thompson. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be given to Faith Presbyterian Hospice – Dallas TX.
