Bonnie Roberts November 29, 1948 – January 24, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Bonnie Jean Porter was born on November 29, 1948, to Jimmie Lee Porter in Beaumont, Texas. Bonnie received her formal education at Charlton Pollard High School, Class of 1967, in Beaumont, Texas. She furthered her education at Lamar University, also in Beaumont, Texas.

Bonnie Jean Porter accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She united with Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful choir member.

Later Bonnie joined The Church at Bethel’s Family in January of 2000 under the leadership of Pastor Walter August, Jr. and was a member there for 15 years. Bonnie J. Porter was united in holy matrimony with Freddie Rogene Roberts on May 14, 1971, in Houston, Texas. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Tanya Lyn Roberts.

She was self-employed as a licensed in-home childcare provider. Bonnie worked as a childcare provider for 40+ years. She was also employed at several daycare centers through the years as well.

In her leisure she enjoyed time with family and friends, eating good food, listening to good music, and praising the Lord. Bonnie Jean Roberts departed this life on January 24, 2019. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jimmie Lee Driver; father, Christopher Columbus Porter; brother, Stephen Ray Porter; grandmother, Helen Slaughter; and grandfather, Alec Slaughter.

She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Tanya Lyn Sams(Patrick); husband, Freddie R. Roberts; sister, Jo Helen Martin (Oscar); five granddaughters, Sade’ Tian Roberts, Raysell Tionne Williams, Natani Tiaun Williams, Novianna Tion Andrews and Patrilyn Teon Sams; and four great-grandchildren, Ray Emanuel, Allysun Isaiah, Laylonni Emanuel and Raydel Campbell; nephews, Trevor Porter and Oberlin Porter. She also leaves a host of other family and friends.
