Bourgeois (B.E.) Eldred Smith was gathered in the arms of His loving Saviour in the early morning of December 24, 2018 at the age of 91. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, December 29, at 12 Noon at Somerville Baptist Church with Dr. Shane Lewis, Reverend Ryan Johnson and Reverend Josh Grubbs officiating with burial to follow at Lawrence Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, December 28 at Peck Funeral Home from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.

The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. He was a faithful member of Somerville Baptist Church and loved by many. He was also instrumental in the founding of Faith Baptist Church in Decatur.

He has served as deacon, teacher, board member and construction overseer for the ministries over the years. He was retired from Matthews Industries. Mr. Smith was born January 28, 1927 in Morgan County to Virgil and Leona Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Irmel Smith and Goin Smith, and sister, Delores Horton and one son, Demon Eldred Smith. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Fay Smith and son, Burgess Smith (Angia) of Eva, three daughters: Vanessa Johnson (Rusty) of Moulton, Connie Stinnett (Bobby) and Melanie Schraff (Michael) both of Eva. Eight grandchildren: Brandon Smith, Ryan Johnson (Becki), Jayce Johnson (Marie), Rachel Johnson, Jessica Hughes (Lance), Zachary Johnson, Justin Davis (Michaella) and Michael Schraff Jr. and six great grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters he loved very much: Loris Puckett of Huntsville and Floris Dunaway of Somerville, AL. Pallbearers will be: Rusty Johnson, Bobby Stinnett, Michael Schraff Sr., Justin Davis, Michael Bradford, Michael Bell, and Michael Schraff Jr. Honorary pallbearers are: Jayce Johnson, WyVaughn Smith, Lou Heath and Charles Teague. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Somerville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 162, Somerville, AL 35670, designating the gift to the missionary grandchildren of B.E. Smith.

He supported both of his grandchildren who are serving on the mission field.
