COURTESY LISTING FOR THE FAMILY OF BRENT BARGEN……. Brent Allen Bargen was born December 19, 1969, in Superior, Nebraska, the son of Robert Bargen and Jolene (Bostelman) Pohlman. He was baptized February 15, 1970, at Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior and confirmed on April 15, 1984 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Milford.

He passed away May 12, 2019. Brent attended Milford Public Schools until his junior year, and then graduated from Crete High School in 1988. He graduated from Doane College and attained his Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education degree all while being a young father, devoted husband, basketball player and working to support his young family.

He was united in marriage to Leslie Grote, July 7, 1990, in Harvard. The Bargen’s were fortunate to live in several wonderful communities while following Brent’s basketball coaching career. He was an assistant coach at Nebraska Wesleyan, Kansas State University and Long Beach State, and the head coach at Chadron State College for 10 years.

He loved the competition, the daily process of game planning, and most importantly he loved all of his student-athletes as if they were his own. After moving to Lincoln in 2016 Brent purchased Handyman Connection and enjoyed the new challenge of helping people with their homes. He loved solving problems, from defensive schemes on the court to how much fence someone’s yard needed!

Brent said his greatest achievements in life were his wife, children and their spouses. Brent loved his family, growing in his Faith, and the Huskers. He was ready to meet Jesus but knew he would have to leave his children, their wonderful spouses and his wife.

Brent strived to be a servant of God. His favorite quotes that specifically reflect his faith are; “I will trust in you, I will not be moved, I will not be shaken” and “Pursue God like your salvation depends on it”. Brent is survived by his wife, Leslie Bargen of Lincoln; daughter Ashley and her husband Cody Roes of Lincoln; son Zacheriah and wife Hanna Bargen of Wichita, Kansas; son Jake Bargen and girlfriend Naomi Isaka of Lincoln; father Robert Bargen of Milford; mother Jolene and husband Lonnie Pohlman of Milford; sister Jill Diederichs and boyfriend Brian Egger of Sprague; grandparents Dwayne and Avis Bostelman of Superior.

He is loved by numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, step-brothers, friends, former players and coaches. Brent and Leslie recently began attending Southwood Church in Lincoln and have considered it a true blessing to be a part of that congregation. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Orval and Florence Bargen; parents-in-law Don and Birdeen Grote; uncles Denny Bargen, Gregg Bostelman; cousin Jeff Bargen.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of how Brent spent a large part of his life, please consider a memorial gift to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Summer Intern Program “Training the Next Generation of Coaches for Christ,” or donations can be sent to the “Brent Bargen Memorial Scholarship Fund” at Doane University for students who are young parents. Visitation will be at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, (3950 Hohensee Drive) Thursday, May 16, from 4-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Southwood Lutheran Church, (4301 Wilderness Hills Boulevard) with Pastor Greg Olson officiating.
