Madison – Brian R. “Trapper” Trappe, age 73, died on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 of heart failure. He was born on September 7, 1944 in LaFarge, WI, the son of Benjamin and Zelma (Risen) Trappe. He graduated from West Lima High School in 1964.

In 1966 he came to Madison and started working at Gisholt Machine Company before being drafted into the Army in 1967, where he served in Fairbanks, Alaska. He returned to Gisholt in 1969 and continued there until the foundry closed in 1986. He worked at Oscar Mayer for 10 years, retiring in September 2000.

Brian married Janice Blaha in Dilly, WI on July 29, 1972. He loved country life, including hunting, fishing and hiking. He loved to read, with history books being his favorite.

He was very proud of his Wisconsin sport teams, especially the Packers. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janice; daughter Tammie (Damon) Whyte; his brother Gary Trappe of Cross Plains; and sister Pamela (Pete) Frase of Waunakee; his sister-in-law Geneva Trappe of Janesville; brother-in law Harold “Dewey” Anderson of Janesville; sisters-in-law June and Bonnie Blaha of Hillsboro; numerous nieces, nephews and friends; and his little dog Bernie. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Rita (Verlin) Rittenhouse and Marveline Davis, brothers Richard “Dick” Trappe, Larry (Sandra) Trappe and Rodney Trappe; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Karen Trappe, Mary Ann Fanta (Robert), Francis Blaha, Joann Anderson and Donnie Blaha; and his beloved dogs Ben and Mattie.

A funeral service will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave. , Madison on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 4:00 pm. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 pm until the time of service.
