OBITUARY Bruce Balkin January 6, 1948 – November 12, 2018 Bruce Balkin died peacefully on November 12, 2018 in Stamford, CT, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was 70 years old. Bruce was born on January 6, 1948 in Queens, NY to Herbert and Gertrude Balkin.

He went to art school, and put his artistic talents to work in several Manhattan advertising firms, including Lowe Lintas. He left the advertising business in 2002 and worked as a contractor in Stamford, CT for the rest of his life. Bruce had a passion for art and design, and he was an avid classic car enthusiast.

He loved car shows and auctions, and shared this bond with many of his closest friends. He is fondly remembered as the “Foreign Embassador” of the White Walls Car Club, Connecticut Chapter. He was also a “foodie,” and enjoyed the fact that his wife is a chef.

Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially with his first grandchild Antonio. Bruce is survived by his wife, Liz DeVito, his brother Stan Balkin (and wife Jamie), his son Gregory Balkin, his step-sons David DeVito and Frank DeVito (and wife Molly), his grandson Antonio DeVito, his nieces Nicole Balkin, Jennifer Michnowski (and husband Alan), Allison Longstreet (and husband Chris), his great-niece Olivia and great-nephew Jeffrey, as well as many cousins. A funeral service will take place on Friday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home on 2900 Summer St. in Stamford, CT.

All are welcome to attend, to pray for Bruce and his family, and to celebrate his life. Bruce’s wife and family will be sitting shiva and welcoming guests at the family home from 5-8pm on Friday, November 16, and from 1-8pm on Saturday, November 17. As it is Jewish custom not to have flowers at a funeral, donations may instead be made to The American Cancer Society.
