Burness’ Obituary Burness Ray Higgs, 90, of Sanger, Texas passed away January 7, 2019 at Presbyterian Hospital in Denton. He was born on March 26, 1928 in Stony, Texas to Tobe Birris and Carrie Amyx Higgs. Burness graduated from Sanger High School in 1946.

He married Billie Dene Allen on August 1, 1953. He started working on the family dairy farm at a very young age and went on to own a Borden wholesale milk route for 21 years. After retiring from Borden’s he went to work at Victor Equipment Company for 14 more years, all while keeping his passion for cattle and farming going.

Burness also loved his brothers at Bolivar Masonic Lodge #418, where he was a member for over 65 years as a 32˚ Mason and a past Worshipful Master, Burness was a member of Gribble Springs Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Dene Allen Higgs, his parents, Tobe and Carrie Higgs, his brothers, Olen Higgs, Houston Higgs and Billy Jack Higgs and his son-in-law, Larry Blake Kilmer. He is survived by his son, Tobie Allen Higgs and his daughter, Marsha Ruth Kilmer, both of Sanger, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors on Thursday, January 10 from 6:00-7:30 P.M. Funeral Service will be held at Gribble Springs Baptist Church on Friday, January 11 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Scott Finley officiating. Masonic Burial will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Krum, Texas. Memorials may be made to the Gribble Springs Baptist Church or to the Bolivar Masonic Lodge #418.
