OBITUARY C. A. “Kaz” Barcynski II February 23, 1930 – October 31, 2018 C. A. “Kaz” Barcynski, II, 88, of New Bern, NC was born in Lebanon, PA Feb. 23, 1930. He is survived by his loving wife Martha Sue, of 50 years, their children, John Barcynski & wife Lori, grandchildren Steven and Kristen, James Paul, Susan Ahern & husband James (grandchildren Jimmy, Colleen, and Michael and great-grandson Jacob, sisters Anastasia Hartman & husband Harry, Neely Willett & husband Michael, sister-in- law Janice, and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his parents Casimir, and Catherine, infant sisters Amelia and Catherine, Brother Christopher, and former wife Joan (Foley). Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Paul Catholic church on November 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the atrium. A private burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Kaz was a Boy Scout and Newsboy. During WWII he served as a Civil Defense Aide and Civil Air Patrol Cadet. He joined the AAF as a teenager, completing basic training at Kelly Field, TX, and graduated from AAF Weather School, Chanute Field, IL.

He served with the USAF Reserve from 1949-1959. He studied at the Air University, LaSalle, Temple, and Upper Iowa Univ. , majoring in business and contract law.

He enjoyed a variety of sports, including baseball, football, basketball, track, tennis, golf, and was a Little League football & baseball coach. He was a former member of the Army Navy C.C., Arlington, VA, and the Emerald G.C. in New Bern, N.C. He was also a self-taught classical pianist.

Kaz was a 3rd and 4th Degree Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, an usher at St. Paul Catholic Church, Board Member of the Prostate Cancer Support Group of Craven County, and Volunteered at the Carolina East Medical Center covering a period of seven years. He was a Life Member of the Air Force Association, Pilot Classes of WWII, the 20th Air Force Association, the Air Weather Association, and the American Legion. Lifetime Charter Member of the WWII Memorial Society, Charter Sponsor USAF Memorial, Founding Member American Air Museum in Great Britain, and Charter Member of The National WWII Museum in New Orleans.

He was also the Historian of the 504th B-29 Bomb Group Association (Tinian-1945). Kaz spent 42 years in a variety of government and industry positions associated with major DOD and NASA programs. Principally as the RCA Systems Support Marketing Manager for the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS), and UNIVAC’s Wash.

, DC Marketing Manager for the NASA Goddard Space Flight Tracking Data Network in support of the APOLLO Program. He was awarded the NASA Apollo XI Certificate in recognition of support to the first lunar landing mission, July 20, 1969, the Apollo Achievement Award for dedicated service to the Nation as a member of the Apollo Team, and the Secretary of Defense Certificate in recognition of service during the Cold War (2 SEP 1945 – 26 DEC 1991). On Dec.

10, 2014 he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for CAP service in WWII. Kaz retired as Marketing Director of GTE’s Wash. , DC office, Communications Systems Division (now part of General Dynamics Corp.
