CARL CLYDE SMITH December 17, 1928 – September 18, 2018 With his loving son and daughter by his side, Carl went to be with his Heavenly Father on the 18th of September at the age of 89. His pastor was there praying for him and provided wonderful support to his family. The hospital’s caring staff was by Carl’s side trying diligently to save his life after suffering complications from a heart attack.

Carl was born on December 17, 1928 in Kansas. He was the second oldest of four children to Clyde and Hettie Smith. He moved to California where he met his future wife Mary Norvelia in the 6th grade.

They ran off to Utah to get married at the young age of 17. Their first child Carl Aldon was born nine months later, then a daughter Mary Ellen was born 3 years later. After the death of his father-in-law, Carl and Mary Norvelia moved to Oklahoma in 1977 to be with his mother-in-law and to help on the farm where they raised cattle.

His children and grandchildren have so many wonderful memories of visiting on the farm including riding three-wheelers and fishing on one of their ponds. They moved back to California in 2005 to be near their grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren who were the loves of his life.

Nothing was more important to him than God, church, and family. He dearly loved his family and was so proud of each one. He passed on to his family his love of God, his great character, work ethic, integrity, and his unshakeable commitment to family.

We were truly blessed to have such a loving and kind man to show us the way. He loved his church family and enjoyed spending time with them at various dinners and activities. He studied the Bible daily and shared his knowledge whenever possible.

He loved to sing and listen to Christian music. Years ago he played the guitar and sang at church. His last days were courageous and showed his deep commitment to God.

We take comfort in knowing that he is at peace and is celebrating with his Heavenly Father and loved ones who welcomed him home. We can picture him embracing Mom again. He missed her so dearly.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife Mary Norvelia, his mother Hettie and his father Clyde Smith, his sister Gladys and brother Merle. He is survived by his loving son Carl A. Smith (Joan) of Arcata, CA and daughter Mary Baxter of Houston, Texas. He dearly loved and treasured his grandchildren Ed Krusey (Hana) of Castaic, CA, Matthew Smith (Nicole) of Herriman, Utah, and Mendy Gerard (Loren) of McKinleyville, CA.

His great-grandchildren Braden, Gavin, Alyse Krusey; Peyton, Jayden, Mikayla Smith; and Alexis, Lacey, Caden Gerard were very precious to him. He is also survived by his loving sister Arlene DeKoning. He was blessed with many wonderful loving relatives and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration for Life for Carl on Monday October 1, 2018 at 1:00pm at the Eureka Church of the Nazarene at 2039 E Street, Eureka, CA 95501. In loving memory of Carl Smith and his love of God and church. To share memories or express condolences, please sign guest book.
