Carleton’s Obituary Carleton E. Shores of Duxbury said his last long goodbye to his family on February 2nd. Carleton was born in Brockton Ma on April 22, 1943. The son of the late Hazel (McKeon) Shores and the late Everett Shores Sr
He leaves his beloved wife Carol (Lee) Shores of Duxbury and his six children. Carleton Shores Jr. pre-deceased 2010, Kelly Shores of Melrose, Meagan (Shores) Grossman and her husband Michael Grossman of Syracuse, Maureen (Shores) Cronin and her husband Sean Cronin of Duxbury, Colleen (Shores) Murphy and her husband Michael Murphy of Marshfield, Ryan Shores and Caron (Grealish) Shores of Pembroke Ma. He also will be dearly missed by his 14 grandchildren Andrew, Lilah, Noah, and Owen Grossman, Jack, Della, and Patrick Cronin, Bode and Finley Murphy, Krystal, Ashley, McKenzie, and Cameron Shores, and his newest granddaughter Evelyn Shores.
He also leaves 2 great grandchildren Emmett and Kinsley. Sadly, many of them will miss his quick wit and sage advice “when life gives you lemons; make lemonade”. Carl had a lot of lemons in his lifetime.
He lost both parents within a year of each other at the age of 12. He was sent to the Catholic Boys home on the Fenway in Boston. He attended Boston English High School while living there.
After graduation in 1961, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was well suited for military life. He loved and was proud of his marine corps service.
After his service, he began work at the New England Telephone company in 1968 and had a very successful career there. While working at the phone company he got involved in teaching at Dale Carnegie. Carl loved to talk!
In order to get paid to teach the courses he needed a college degree. He set about doing that and graduated with two degrees from Cambridge College in 1986. After much trouble Carl overcame the disease of Alcoholism.
He devoted much of his time to helping others get sober. At the time of his death, he celebrated 50 years of sobriety and helped many people achieve their own sobriety. He was immensely proud of this.
He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, witty sayings, and the love of family. Always social, he loved Duxbury Senior Center and Plymouths Cozy corner and the very kind people from Cranberry Hospice. He was a gentleman to the end thanking and appreciating everyone’s help.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2019 for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury. Burial will be in the Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for a remembrance to Cranberry Hospice and the Alzheimer’s association.
