Obituary for Carmela DeSio Carmela De Sio passed away on Tuesday, October 30, at Fulton Commons Care Center of East Meadow. Born March 22, 1923 in Brooklyn as Carmela Bellingeri, she was the daughter of the late Martin Bellingeri and Lucy Ferrigno. Carmela was one of 13 children.

She graduated with Arista from Lincoln High School in Brooklyn. Shortly after, she met John De Sio and married on June 4, 1944. She was the devoted mother of Linda and John, grandmother of Jennifer, Laura, Elizabeth and Jo Anne and great-grandmother of Mya, Riley, Joseph and Ella.

She enjoyed playing bank and restaurant (equipped with menus) with her grandchildren. They would often spend days at her Toms River home bowling and going to movies. Her great-grandchildren would play bingo with her and give her the needed “check-ups”.

Carmela enjoyed playing cards, Mah Jongg and dancing the chicken dance. Family will remember the “This is a Very Solemn Occasion” game. Connie also enjoyed afternoon tea with her constant companion and sister-in-law Genevieve.

Carmela was much loved and she loved much. You will be missed. A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday, from 2:00pm- 5:00 pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. , 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island NY.

A mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at the Holy Child Church, Staten Island NY at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island NY. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Carmela DeSio please visit our Sympathy Store.
