Obituary for Virginia Ferrara A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother Virginia ”Dolly” Ferrara, 93, of Annadale, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2018, one day before her 94th birthday. She was born December 30, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Antonia and Michael Firneno. She settled in Annadale in 1992.
Virginia was one of 12 children, the last to survive her siblings. While in Brooklyn, she was a parishioner of Good Shepherd Church and was currently a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Huguenot. She loved listening to music, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra and Andre Bocelli being her favorites.
Virginia, a homemaker, always made Christmas Eve special for her family, especially with all the fish she made, her baked clams and her crab sauce which was always the best. ”She was a woman of class and a wonderful mother, always there for us. My mom and dad’s favorite movie was Frank Capra’s film, ”It’s a Wonderful Life” and that they did have” said her daughter, Mary Farino.
Virginia was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Michael, who passed away in 2004. She was also predeceased by her daughter Antonia Young (2002) and her great grandson, Christian Marshall (2013). In addition to her daughter, Mary, she is survived by her son, Michael, her 8 grandchildren and her 11 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday at the John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. S.I. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:15 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, located at 5411 Amboy Road. S.I. Interment will follow in Green-Wood Cemetery.
