Funeral services for Carmen Opal Meyer will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, MN. The Reverend Don Rose will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Kiester, MN, at a later date. Carmen died Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester, MN. She was 94 years of age.

Carmen was born December 29, 1924 in Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Ida (Skjervheim) Schroader. She graduated from Kiester High School in 1943 and received her teaching degree from Mankato State University. Carmen was united in marriage to Vernell Meyer on July 11, 1946 in Kiester, MN.

She taught country school for many years then public school in Blooming Prairie, Manchester and Albert Lea. Carmen enjoyed her teaching career, cooking, shopping, polka music and playing the piano. Special memories were times spent with her family.

She is survived by her daughters Verlayne MacKay (Dave) of Owatonna, MN, Verliss Keller-Miller (Mike) of Rochester, MN, five grandchildren John MacKay, Jennifer MacKay, Julie MacKay, Richard (Angie) Keller and Anthony (Michele) Keller. Also surviving are five great grandchildren Ashley, Amanda, Austin, Matthew and Kaylee Keller, one sister Marilyn Moe of Albert Lea, MN, and sister-in-law Nordean Fox of Austin, MN. Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Lila (Larry) Hessel, Gloria (Gary) Walk, brothers Marvin Schroader, Marlin (Marilyn) Schroader, VirGene Schroader and sister-in-law Priscilla Mutschler.
