Carmen L. Basham, age 87, born July 4, 1931 in Rock, WV to Erie and Lula Basham passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2019. Carmen served in the United States Navy for more than 20 years. He proudly retired as a Lieutenant Commander on July 31, 1972.

Following his military service, he worked as a contractor in the construction industry. He enjoyed NASCAR races, Fox News, and he loved working in his yard. He also faithfully watched Charles Stanley on Sunday mornings.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Jeanie Basham; a grandson, Steven Basham; a son, Charles Wyatt; and his sister, Mary Lee Wright. Carmen is survived by his loving children: Mark Basham (Brenda) and Sandra Swinney (Michael); grandchildren: Charles Wyatt, Jr. (Ashley) and John Ross Swinney; great-grandchild, Clayton Wyatt; daughter-in-law, Patricia Wyatt; and brother-in-law, Almer Wright. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home.

Services officiated by Rev. Bobby Highsmith will begin at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment with full military honors will immediately follow.

He will be laid to rest next to his wife in Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery in the Garden of The Good Shepherd.
