Protz of Oshkosh passed away on March 20th, 2019 at Theda Care Regional Medical Center, Neenah, WI. Carol was born July 2, 1947 in Tomah, Wisconsin, the third of five children born to Harvard Y. and Elvora D (Kelk) Protz. She was a graduate of Tomah Sr. High School and later went on to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Carol married (Bob) Robert W. Jackson of Rock Hill, South Carolina in October of 1964 and divorced in 1978. Carol and Bob had two daughters together Julie and Tammy. Carol’s places of employment in her life time included working at Marshfield’s St. Joseph Medical Center as a Unit Clerk in the Neonatal Ward, working on an assembly line at Toro in Tomah, working at John Morrell Meat Plant in Sioux Falls South Dakota.
Carol was also Co – owner of Lorenz Tire and Retread when she was married and divorced to her second husband. After her divorce she worked at the PX at Fort McCoy for some time before going on to earn a certified Nursing assistant certificate and worked for some time caring for Elderly patients. Her last working job was with Wal-Mart as a produce manager in Tomah.
Carol was a social butterfly and enjoyed bartending at the Derby Bar in Marshfield, The Rustic in Oakdale, The Avenue Bar and The Hoffbrau Bar in Tomah. Carol had many interests in life, she had a horse named Diamond that she loved and often told fond memories of her adventures on Diamond. She was a member of the Tomah Saddle Club and also rode Diamond in the High School Rodeo competing in Barrel races and Pole bending.
Carol loved ice skating with her daughters at Pickle Pond in Marshfield. She also enjoyed NASCAR races on TV and local Stock Car racing watching her Uncle Donald Protz at Tomah/ Sparta Speedway and at The La Crosse speedway and husband Bob who raced at Marshfields Rangeway Motor Speedway. Both men were sponsored by her father Harv Protz who owned the 7-up Bottling Company in Tomah and in Marshfield.
Carol loved snowmobiling and was a member of the Tomah I-Dividers Snowmobile Club for years. She loved to Shoot Darts, Bowl, and Shoot Pool. She was quite the PoolShark and won several trophies and was one year nominated best female pool shooter in Monroe County!
Carol also enjoyed playing cards especially Euchre with her Mother Elvora and Elvora’s twin sister Eldora Heilman, family and friends! She enjoyed family picnics and loved to go Camping spending many nights under the stars with family and friends and sailing with Captain Morgan! When she moved to Oshkosh to be near her daughter Julie, she enjoyed Pontooning on the Fox River alot!
She made many new friends in Oshkosh and even joined a sorority Beta Sigma Phi whose motto is Life, Learning and Friendship. Carol loved the sorority and her sorority sisters! Carol also enjoyed taking a ceramic class at the Oshkosh Senior Center painting ceramics with her daughter and many friends there.
Carol lived in an Elderly Community in Oshkosh and always signed up for community activities and even while living in Rehabilitation Centers was often referred as “having a great Zest for life” and often encouraging others to engage in activities with her. She was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed family and friends Packer parties. Carol’s favorite Holiday was Christmas, she loved to decorate for Christmas, giving gifts, going to Church on Christmas Eve followed by time spent with family.
Carol’s greatest love of life was with her Children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. Carol is survived in death by her daughter, Julie (Karl) Robertson of Oshkosh WI, her daughter, Tammy Jackson and Tammy’s significant other Jason Bolster of 4 Corners in WI, her granddaughter, Angela Robertson of Oshkosh WI, her grandson, Wayne Robertson of Brandon WI, her great-grandchildren, Annabella and Lydia Robertson of Brandon WI, her sisters Della (Otto) Peterson of Tomah WI, Marilyn (Dennis) Ruckinsky of Oshkosh WI, Barbara Schara of Bangor WI, and many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her cherished Shih Tzu, Romeo. She is preceded in death by her parents Harv and Elvora Protz of Tomah WI, her sister, Jane Lincoln of Tomah, her niece, Lori Hensley and Lori’s son James Hensley, her Best friend and Cousin Janice (Heilman) Hoernke, as well as, her beloved Horse Diamond and her loving Shih Tzu’s Charlie Chan, Sassy a Frass, Jake Jackson and Angel Protz.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the wonderful staff in the ICU unit at Theda Care Regional Medical Center-Neenah as well as the 5th floor where she visited many times. Theda Care Hospice, Parkview Health Center of Oshkosh WI, Mayberry Manor of Oshkosh WI and Juliet Manor of Berlin, WI. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019, 2:00 PM at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau Street, Tomah.
Pastor John Seelman will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Sat at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service.
