OBITUARY Carol Ann Massey nee Sellers April 26, 1942 – January 27, 2019 Play Tribute Movie Carol Ann Massey nee Sellers, age 76, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully into the Lord’s hands on January 27, 2019, following hip replacement surgery. She was born to the late Paul and Ruth Sellers in Bourbon, IN in 1942. She and her brothers, Ron and Allan grew up on a farm before moving to Sweetser, IN.

Carol knew and loved the Lord from an early age. She related all of her life to her faith in God. Carol met her husband of 50 years, Dennis, at the University Club.

They married, had two children, and four grandchildren. They lived in Fort Wayne, most recently in a home they designed and built together and enjoyed greatly. Carol loved Dennis greatly and supported his hobbies.

They enjoyed traveling over their years together, including trips to Germany, Mexico, England, Switzerland, France, and to a number of the 50 states. She particularly encouraged Dennis’ love of flying. They enjoyed taking their small airplane to nearby destinations before her health deteriorated and it became difficult for her to fly with him.

Carol endured many surgeries to stabilize her worsening scoliosis and replace joints that caused her severe pain, and through it all Dennis was her rock. He tirelessly cared for her and was her biggest cheerleader and supporter. Carol was a woman of many talents.

She played the piano beautifully, and was a skilled seamstress and needle worker. But she was really a teacher and mentor to her core. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Manchester College and her master’s degree from Ball State University.

She taught every grade from kindergarten through 8th grade at different points in her career, and was a substitute teacher for several years – true work in the trenches of education. Her last twelve years was spent at Memorial Park Middle School, instructing 8th graders in language arts and social studies. She continued to teach and mentor women after she retired from the classroom – at Hope Center, at church, and one on one as she came across women who needed help.

Dennis joined her in this calling, and their generosity in this regard was unparalleled as they selflessly gave to help others. Carol’s strong faith led her to strive to be the hands and feet of Jesus to her last day. She is loved and survived by her husband, Dennis, her son Scott (Julie) Massey and their children Ryan and Allison of Fort Wayne, daughter Laura (Scott) Sandee and their children Jack and Olivia of Wilmette, IL: brothers Ronald Sellers of Warsaw and Allan Sellers of Gas City, IN.
