Carol J. Tharaldson, age 72, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Carol Jean Tharaldson was born July 6, 1946 in Carrington, North Dakota to Edward and Loretta (Schaack) Sondag. She is a 1964 graduate of Sykeston High School and a 1967 graduate of Valley City State College.

Carol was united in marriage to Jerry L. Tharaldson, July 13, 1968 in Sykeston, ND. They lived in Wabasso and Glencoe, MN prior to moving to Detroit Lakes, MN in 1982. She taught school for four years and then operated a day care business for 30 years.

Carol was an active member of MEA, the Prime Providers Board, the Detroit Lakes Daycare Association, and served as an early childhood mentor for Detroit Lakes High School. She sang in the Holy Rosary Choir for over 40 years, was a Confirmation team leader, served as the Sunday preschool coordinator, was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Daughters, and was captain of the Holy Rosary Relay for Life Team. She also danced with the North Star Cloggers, was a volunteer at the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center and at Emmanuel and Oak Crossing Nursing Homes, and was a member of the WWNW coffee group.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry of Detroit Lakes; 4 children, Brent of St. Paul, MN, Kristen of Minneapolis, MN, Jenae (Thomas Mills) of Carrboro, NC, Ryan (Ange) of Minneapolis, MN; 5 grandchildren, Lucy and Atticus Mills, Rory, Parker and Ryder Tharaldson; 6 sisters and 3 brothers, Darlene (Zeno) Heintz of Jamestown, ND, Mary (Eugene) Kapaun of Thornton, CO, Joan (Jim) Schmidt of Jamestown, ND, Diane (Dennis) Hafner of Sykeston, ND, Gary (Vikki) Sondag of Carrington, ND, Dean (Cheryl) Sondag of Goldendale, WA, Kathleen Sondag of Holcomb, KS, Janet Wrolstad of Vista, CA, Randy (Pam) Sondag of Carrington, ND; sisters-in-law, Karla Sondag of Fargo, ND, Dorene (John) Heinze of Cooperstown, ND, and brothers-in-law Philip Quick of Dazey, ND, and Wayne Quick of Baltimore, MD.
