OBITUARY Cassie Gahafer Rief-Smith October 6, 1923 – February 1, 2019 Cassie Gahafer Rief-Smith, 95, of Louisville, passed away February 1, 2019. She was born October 6, 1923 to the late August and Alma Gahafer. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and enjoyed pinochle, bowling, and her friends at Moose Lodge #5.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George W. Rief Sr.; her second husband, Beverly Owen Smith; eight brothers and sisters; and her son-in-law, George C. Soete. Survivors include her children, Cassie Rief Soete, George Rief Jr.(Clarene), Glenn Rief(Donna), and Kim Rief Miller(Keith); grandchildren, Angie McDermott(Terry), Missy Soete, Tricia Lipp(Chuck), Christie Wilson(Wayne), Jeff Soete(Michele), Cassie Hallberg(Brian), Collette Bledsoe(David), Kelly Simpson, Michelle Cummings(Donald), Scott Rief, Allison Markert(Evan), Kathleen Miller, and Maria Miller; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be 10am Monday, February 4, 2019 at Evergreen Funeral Home with private entombment in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be 1pm-6pm Sunday at the funeral home. The Rief family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Jefferson Manor for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Parkinson’s Foundation(Parkinson.org) or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at 11902 Brinley Ave.
