Catherine’s Obituary Catherine D. Gryboski, 82, Green Bay, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2019, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Green Bay to George and Dorothy (Kroner) Stoik on November 21, 1936. Catherine graduated from Annunciation Grade School in 1951, attended Green Bay West High, and graduated from Newman Catholic Prep School in Boston, MA in 1955, where she also cared for the family of her ailing Aunt Catherine; then returned to Green Bay where she attended UWGB for one year.
She was employed at Fort Howard Paper Co. and Nau’s Women’s Clothing Store after high school. On April 25, 1959, Catherine married Roger Gryboski at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Green Bay. Together, in 1964, they founded and ran Roger R. Gryboski Quality Home Builders, having developed several subdivisions and were active in commercial real estate development and investment until their retirement in 1996.
Catherine was a member of the Brown County Home Builders Association (BCHBA), and was the inaugural president of the BCHBA Women’s Auxiliary in 1971-72, as well as being named the Auxiliary Member of the Year in 1984. Catherine was a longtime member of St. Agnes Parish, and she and Roger have been members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, being charter members since 1978. Cathy always got involved and had many noteworthy accomplishments, both personally and professionally, but the way she led her life is what made her amazing.
Her faith was important to her and every day she strived to live her life in God’s image. She always did the right thing especially when no one was looking; that is one of the things that made her so special. She instinctively saw the good in everybody and always rooted for the underdog.
Cathy was a kind, loving, compassionate, classy, elegant, funny, happy, sincere, charitable, sympathetic person who never took herself too seriously. She really loved to laugh. Cathy enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family and her home was always a gathering place open to all.
While the kids were home, she enjoyed boating and having fun at their cottage near Crivitz. As empty nesters, she and Roger enjoyed golfing and boating in Door County, on Lake Michigan in the summers, and Port Charlotte near Punta Gorda, FL in the winters. She was an incredibly loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend to many.
She will be missed by all who knew her. Catherine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roger; children: Debbie, Green Bay; Mary (Patrick) Hermsen, Green Bay; Steve (Lynne) Gryboski, De Pere; and Bob (Stacy) Gryboski, De Pere; six grandchildren: Bryan and Erinn Hermsen, Cora (Eric) Curtis, Vincent, Jacob and Alex Gryboski; and expecting her first great-grandson, Baby Curtis. She is further survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom (Marilyn) Gryboski, Lois (Mike) Lops, and Linda (John) Mann; several nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Ted and Alice Gryboski; and a brother-in-law, Charles Gryboski. Visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2771 Oakwood Dr., from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. concelebrated by Msgr. James Dillenburg and Rev.
