Catherine D. Birch, age 85 of Columbus, Ohio passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018. Cathy was born to Joseph and Marie Downs in Columbus on October 10, 1932. A graduate of Immaculate Conception Grade School, St. Mary’s of the Springs High School and The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Home Economics, Cathy was always a strong advocate of education.

Cathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, James Edward Birch and her brother, Marshall C. Downs. Cathy is survived by her son, Joseph Michael; daughter-in-law, Molly; grandchildren, Colleen, Michael and Patrick; great-grandson, Aidan; sister-in-law, Nancy Downs, and Cousin, Dennis Wilcox; close family friend, Jose Portillo, along with many beloved friends and extended family members. Friends may call at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel: 4661 Kenny Road Columbus, OH 43220 (614-451-5900) from 4-7 p.m., Wake Service 6:45 p.m., Thursday, September 27th.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 28th at Immaculate Conception Church 414 E. North Broadway followed by internment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends who wish may contribute to the Alzheimer’s Association.
