Obituary for Catherine Kettle Shira Catherine was born on March 23, 1965 in Salt Lake City, Utah to her loving parents Don and Nancy Kettle. Her parents raised her and four siblings in Midvale. Many fond memories were made in their family home.
Catherine graduated from Hillcrest High School and later served a mission in Tujunga, California. She loved the people in California. One of the highlights of her mission was experiencing the Rose Parade in person.
After her mission, she watched the Rose Parade on television many times. She always said, “I can still smell the roses! ” After her mission, Catherine worked at Ballard Medical.
While working there, she was set up on a blind date with a co-worker’s son. From the moment Bob and Catherine met, they both felt as though they had always known each other. They were married on May 6, 1993 and were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 6, 1994.
Her husband Bob was the light of her life. He took wonderful care of her, especially as she suffered during the last year of her life. Many fond memories were created through the years including frequent visits to Chuck-A-Rama and the movie theater.
They loved to travel and their favorite spots included San Diego, Moab, Yellowstone, Durango, and Roosevelt. One of Catherine’s most painful and heartbreaking experiences in this life was not being able to have children. She poured all of the love she had into her nieces and nephews.
They all have cherished memories of sleepovers at Bob and Catherine’s home. She would have dinner ready and everyone would stay up late laughing at Bob’s unending jokes, watching movies, and enjoying the hot tub. The next morning, they would eat a delicious breakfast and go Saturday grocery shopping.
During the week, they would take their nieces and nephews to the dollar theater. Catherine and Bob made a tradition of being Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus every Christmas Eve. Everyone received thoughtful gifts from Santa and his wife.
Catherine was a well-rounded person. She loved to read, collect stuffed animals, make jewelry, complete crossword puzzles, watch HGTV and the Hallmark Channel. She had a classic sense of style and her clothing was always attractively combined with matching jewelry.
Catherine was talented at crocheting and produced blankets that were beautiful pieces of art work. Many of her crocheted blankets and hats were donated to humanitarian causes all over the world. Catherine passed away at Intermountain Medical Center on November 6, 2018.
Catherine’s visit to this world, though brief, was overflowing with love. She was a valiant spirit who leaves behind a legacy of strength, love and perseverance. We are grateful her suffering is over and we know she is singing with the concourses of angels.
She is survived by her beloved “Bobby”, mother, Nancy Catherine Williams Kettle, siblings Melinda (Mark) Hicken, Stephanie Tanner, Marvin (Amy) Kettle, Renee Christiansen, and many adoring nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Don B Kettle. A viewing will be held Thursday, November 8 from 6-8 pm at 1380 W 6785 S, West Jordan.
