Cecil Lee Conrad Of Rio Oso California, August 19, 1930 — January 21, 2019

Today we remember Cecil Lee Conrad. A native of California, Cecil was born and raised in Susanville on August 19, 1930. Cecil proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during his enlistment he was awarded 5 medals of honor for valor and bravery above and beyond the call of duty, a distinction he would carry with him throughout the rest of his life.

He was a fair, honest and loyal man. Cecil also played a big part in the completion of the Orville Dam. He was a union mechanic construction worker for the State of California and was very proud to be part of such a major undertaking and accomplishment.

Cecil worked in this capacity until the early 70’s. In the late 60’s Cecil met his wife to be Mildred Walker. Mildred had 4 children from a previous marriage.

Cecil and Mildred did not have any children together but Cecil became a Step-Father and Step Grandfather to Mildred’s family. Mildred and Cecil resided in Rio Oso, CA. Cecil then became a long haul trucker and together he and Mildred trucked the countryside until 2004 when Mildred became sick.

She passed on in 2005. After Mildred’s death Cecil continued to drive his truck until 2008 when his eyesight failed him. Cecil once again returned to Rio Oso, when he took up residency with Billy Beets Jr. Cecil had been a long time family friend to the Beets.

Cecil and Billy resided together until his death January 21, 2019. Cecil is preceded in death by his father, mother, 3 brothers, 1 sister, wife Mildred and 3 step children. Cecil is survived by 1 sister (Mary) residing in Washington, his step-son Ernie Walker of Missouri and numerous step Grandchildren.
