Mrs. Celia Mae Addison Byrd, 91, of Swainsboro passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Pruitt Health in Swainsboro following an extended illness. Mrs. Byrd was born March 26, 1928 in Moultrie to the late John Addison and Alice Addison. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Homer Byrd; sons, Henry Washington, Jr. and C.J. Washington; daughter, Isa Mae Bivins; granddaughters, Rosa Washington, Sherry Bivins, and Tammie Foster.

Mrs. Celia Mae Addison-Byrd, daughter of the late John & Alice Williams Addison was born on March 26, 1928 in Moultrie, Georgia. She attended Colquitt County and Emanuel County public schools. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and join St. Philip Missionary Baptist Church in 1948 where she was a dedicated member until her brief illness.

At St. Philip, she served as a member of the Missionary Ministry, head of the Hospitality & Kitchen Committees, a choir member, and usher. Mrs. Byrd was a member Jethro Council, former Tri-County Choir and former member of St. Philip Chapter No. 114, OES Preceded her death granddaughters Tammie Washington Foster, Rosa Washington, and Sherry Bivens-Johnson; sons, CJ Washington & Henry Washington; daughter Isa Mae Washington-Bivins.

She leaves behind her cherished caregiver, Quantavius Foster Sr. (Son); daughters, Eva Mae Davis of Florida, Daisy Murphy of Swainsboro, Laura Mae Williams of Adel. and Clara Dockins of Gainesville, Florida; 3 sisters, Madie Hall of Jacksonville, Florida, Lue Moore of Philadelphia, Pennsylvia, and Frances Baldwin of Jacksonville, Florida; 1 brother, Alexander Addison of Palaka, Florida; 10 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 48 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and family Funeral Services will at St. Philip Missionary Baptist Church 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2019. Mrs. Byrd will lie in state one hour prior to service.

Interment will be in the Swainsboro City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2019 at Chapman Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at www.
