Charle “Red”‘s Obituary Charles L. “Red” McConn, 91, 501 E. Front Street #4, Larimore, ND, formerly of Minot, ND, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at the Northwood Deaconess Hospital, Northwood, ND, surrounded by his loving family. Charles LeRoy “Red” McConn was born April 12, 1928 to Roy and Anna (Brandon) McConn. He attended Roosevelt Elementary and Minot High School.

He started working on the Great Northern Railway in 1944. Red entered the United States Navy on February 2, 1946 and served aboard the USS Piedmont, AD17. He was stationed at Yokosuka, Japan and Tsingtao, China until his honorable discharge on December 2, 1947 in San Diego, CA.

He served in the Naval Reserve for 5 years. Red returned to the Great Northern Railway, retiring on April 30, 1990 following 46 years of service. Red married Mable B. Narum on June 1, 1952 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot.

They enjoyed many outdoor activities and were members of Zion Lutheran Church of Minot. Red was a member of numerous hunting and fishing clubs and organizations. He was also legislatively active in promoting the benefits of hunting and fishing.

He belonged to the VFW Club, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees, 515 Club and the Minot High Class of ’46. A special thank you to all of the staff at the Northwood Deaconess Hospital and Larimore Good Samaritan Home. Surviving family includes: Daughter, Nancy (Steve) Burke; grandson, Erik (Keely) Burke; great-grandsons, Jameson and Took; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Red was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers and sisters. Funeral: Monday, May 6, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, ND. Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Coffee, Cookies and Doughnuts with Red: One hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church of the charity of the donor’s choice.
