Charles’ Obituary Charles C. Geers, of Oswego, died from complications of cancer. After a short but courageous battle with the final cancer, a form of leukemia, he departed this world on May 5, 2019, and left to join his three best friends, Oscar, Felix, and Fruitcake. Charles (AKA Charlie, Grandpa Chuck, Papa Chuck) was born in Fulton to Otto A. Geers and Lula Parkhurst Geers on March 20, 1929.

Charlie spent his youth in Fulton schools, graduating from Fulton High. He was a member of the Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle Scout Badge in 1945. He was a graduate of S.U.N.Y.

Oswego and earned his B.S., M.S., and C.A.S. in Education. He also attended O.C.S. for the Marine Corps and served in the Korean War Conflict in 1949-1950 as a First Lieutenant of the Armored Division. Charlie also served another 11 years in the Marine Corps Reserves, where he rose to the rank of Captain.

He was a teacher and Guidance Counselor for the Fulton School District for 31 years. During that time, he was a V.P. and President for the Fulton Teachers Association for 7 years, as well as serving as an officer for the Oswego County Teachers Association, and a district representative for the N.Y. Education Association. After retiring, he worked within the New England Consortium of Colleges for 12 years, serving as an Admissions Counselor for Hawthorne College, N.H., and Unity College, Maine.

He retired from there in 1997 as an Assistant Dean of Admissions. He was formerly married to Elizabeth Doyle Geers (now deceased) and was father of Sharon Geers (Bruce) Butler of Fulton, Douglas (Karen) Geers of Fulton, and Peg Geers Holt of Mexico. He was the husband of Tina Farella Geers of Oswego, and the step-dad to Joseph J. (Karrie) Saltalamachia of Unity, Maine and Matthew J. (Jennifer) Saltalamachia of Oswego.

He was a grandfather to 6 children, Nikki, Corrie, Katherine, Alexandra, Stephen, and Maria. He was also a great grandfather to Libby and Lennyx. He wanted special mention given to his Godson, Carlos, who resided with him and his wife Tina for some 5 years.

Memorial services will be held in Charlie’s honor at All Saints Episcopal Church, South First Street in Fulton on June 1st, at 10:30am. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie’s honor can be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, PO Box 542, Fulton, NY 13069. Arrangements are in care of the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
