OBITUARY Charles Edward Schmidt October 13, 1925 – November 29, 2018 Charles Edward Schmidt, 93, returned to the Lord on November 29, 2018 at Treyton Oak Towers, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Charlie served his country during WW2 in the U.S. Marine Corp as a Sergeant and communications specialist for the MAG-22 air group in the South Pacific Theater. He returned with the victory in the Pacific to marry his sweetheart, Mary Sue “Susie” Forbes.

As a civilian, he began a life-long career in the newly emerging refrigeration industry. In 1958, Mr. Schmidt founded Air Conditioning Contractors Inc. which in 1963 became ACCO, Inc He was the president and CEO of ACCO, Inc. until his retirement in 1997.

During his career, he served as officer and board member of many industry related associations, at both national and state levels. He served on the Kentucky Board of Housing, Buildings and Construction for 8 years. Mr. Schmidt was a Deacon Emeritus at Walnut Street Baptist Church where he generously gave his time and talents in various leadership roles.

He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Third & Oak Corp. dba Treyton Oak Towers, Inc He was also a past president and Board Member of Baptist Towers, Inc

Mr. Schmidt was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ferd P. and Lyla Bell Schmidt, a brother, Frank and two sisters, Lavinia and Rita. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 72 years, Mary Sue Schmidt, daughter Nancy Kippes (Richard), son C. Vincent Schmidt (Carrie), five grand-daughters and ten great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Treyton Oak Towers for the loving care that they showed Mr. Schmidt during his final days with a special thanks to Tiffany Embry, Lead Nurse on the second floor.

Visitation will be Sunday 2pm to 8pm and 10am to 12am Monday at Arch L. Heady Funeral Home at Resthaven. The funeral service will be at 12pm and burial at the Resthaven Cemetary.
