Obituary for Charles G. Abate Sr. On Thursday June 28, 2018, Charles G. Abate Sr. of Estero, FL died peacefully, at Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice. He was born on May 13, 1930 a son of the late Gaetano and Anna Scalzo Abate. He was a former resident of Millstone Township, in Monmouth County, NJ until 2007 when he and wife Pauline, of 63 years, moved to Estero FL.
After graduation he began a 40 year career with American Standard in Trenton. At the age of 20 he was drafted into the U.S. Army for 2 years and stayed in the reserves for 8 years. His career in local government began in 1973 in which he served the community for 35 years.
He was active in various committees and boards governing the township. He served as Mayor for 7 years and Deputy Mayor for 9 years. He was involved in Boy Scouts, Little League, and was a charter member of the Elks Post 2613.
He was an avid Yankee fan. Charles is survived by his wife Pauline (Shirley) Abate of Estero FL, his son Charles G. Abate, Jr., and his partner Donna of Bonita Springs, FL; his daughter Michele Barina of Estero FL; his granddaughter Alyssa and her husband Keith Sharrocks; and his newest pride and joy, great granddaughter Adalind Jolene who reside in Perkasie PA. We are so grateful he was able to meet and spend time with Adalind just 2 weeks before he passed.
Friends are welcome on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Light Catholic Community in Estero, FL followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. Interment will be in Naples Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Joanne’s House at Hope Hospice, 27200 Imperial Parkway, Bonita Springs FL.
