CHARLES GILBERT (GIB) BROWN Charles Gilbert (Gib) Brown was born in rural Unionville, MO on January 26, 1920 to Stanley and Lenora (Powell) Brown. He spent his entire life in Putnam County until he moved to Kirksville, MO in 2014. He was a resident of The Pines in Kirksville from February, 2018 until his death on May 23, 2019.

Gib grew up on a farm in Putnam County and attended the Brown School which was founded by his family. He later attended the Unionville High School. On May 11, 1941 Gib married Kathy Patterson just a few weeks from the day they met.

They were married for 78 years, and Kathy survives. Two daughters were born to this union, Linda (Bob) Cook of Hannibal and Lana Brown of Kirksville. Gib had one granddaughter, Leigh Anne (Chad) Ford of Hannibal, and a great granddaughter, Lillie Ford.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clayton Brown. The couple farmed for many years, and Gib worked for Veterinarian Fon Owings for over four decades. Gib loved attending auctions and later worked for Auctioneer Gary Knight.

He enjoyed trading and selling most anything—especially knives and guns. He was an avid fan of the Royals and the Chiefs. Playing rummy and pitch were his favorite pastimes.

As per Gib’s request, there will be no funeral services. A private burial service is planned at a later date. Family and friends are welcome any time at Kathy’s residence at #2 Broadview in Kirksville.

Memorials may be directed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation (P.O. Box 5014; Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 or www. michaeljfox.org), which focuses on research for Parkinson’s Disease. Arrangements by the Ruschmeier Funeral Home in Green City.
