Charles Gilliam, 89 of Charleston, formerly of Logan peacefully went to be with our Lord on January 7, 2019. Born March 3, 1929 in Culver, KY, he was the son of the late Mertie and Esther Williams Gilliam. Charles was also preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life of 62 years Virginia Gilliam, one son Terry Lee Gilliam, as well as several brothers and sisters.

during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Charles retired from the Pittston Coal Group with 48 years of service and was a member of the U.M.W.A. As a member of the WV House of Delegates, he served the people of Logan and Lincoln counties for 16 years.

He also enjoyed serving as manager of Omar Little League, where his sons played baseball. Upon retiring, Charles and Virginia lived in Daytona Beach Shores and Cocoa Beach, FL for 20 years, enjoying their Church and many friends they had met while living in Florida. Charles was also a member of the Kanawha Presbyterian Church in Charleston.

He is survived by his sons Charles Jr (Jill) Gilliam of Charleston and Shawn (Jennifer) Gilliam of Morgantown, also his lone remaining sister Herma Elkins of Switzer, his grandchildren Zoey and Reagan Gilliam, Ashley (Jay) Zollars and their children Hudson Elizabeth and Jillian of Worthington, OH, grandson Jordan of Taiwan, daughter in law Patty Gilliam of Logan Funeral services for Charles will be held on Friday January 11, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Honaker Funeral Home in Logan. Entombment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Friends may call on the family on Friday from 12:30 -2:00 at the funeral home.

The family request lieu of flowers donations be made to the Kanawha Hospice House 4605 McCorkle Ave SW Charleston, WV 25301.
