Charles K. “Charley” “Chuck” Ruffing, age 46 of Clyde, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky. He was born May 3, 1973 in Marion, Ohio to the late Michael J. Ruffing and DeeAnn (Eisenhart) Ruffing-Kent. Chuck was a 1991 Seneca East graduate and participated in track and numerous musicals.

He attended Tiffin University and was a member of Phi Theta Pi Fraternity. He was a 1997 Heidelberg College graduate with a degree in elementary education and a Masters of Education from Marygrove College. Chuck was also a member of the Attica Knights of Columbus Council 3062.

His teaching career began at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Bucyrus, Ohio where he taught 7th and 8th grade. Chuck has been a 4th grade teacher starting at Clyde Vine and then to Green Springs Elementary. He loved teaching and always had a nickname for each one of his students.

He made learning fun and the kids loved him as a teacher just as much as he loved each one of them! Chuck was nominated for an award this school year by one of his students who is a senior at Clyde High School. This student said that Mr. Ruffing was a major influence in his life.

Chuck loved spending time with family and friends, from cookouts to holiday gatherings to vacation getaways. One of his many passions was Go-Kart racing at Lil Indy and Martinville Racetracks. He also enjoyed working at the Attica Raceway Park.

Chuck purchased a 1970 Dodge Dart and completely restored it with the help of many of his friends. He received an award at the 2017 annual Autumn Cruise Night at Upper Sandusky. His favorite hobby was brewing beer!

A thank you goes out to George, Kyle, and Brian! From making the beer to sampling, he always enjoyed the time with the guys from school. Another thank you to Scott, for helping with brewing.

From fishing with his step-father Byron and friends, to spending time with all his nieces and nephews, Chuck will always be remembered and loved. Chuck is survived by his wife, Shari Ruffing (Horstman), whom he married October 12, 2002; mother and step-father, DeeAnn and Byron Kent; sister, Jolene (Derek) Houpt; godfather, Gary Eisenhart; godmother, Janice Ruffing; aunt, Faith Ruffing; cousin, Shawna Eisenhart; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ken and Diane Horstman; sisters-in-law: Amy Horstman, Connie (Bobby) Cerney, Lisa (Darin) Smith; and all of his nieces and nephews whom he loved spending time with. Chuck is preceded in death by his father, Michael J. Ruffing; grandparents, George and Helen Eisenhart; Jaynie Eisenhart; aunt, Annie Ruffing; grandparents: Carl and Gladys Ruffing; and several great-aunts and uncles.

Friends will be received Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Foos Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson Hwy. , Clyde, OH 43410. The rosary will be recited just before visitation at 1:30pm.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:00am at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E Center St, Bellevue, OH 44811. In Lieu of flowers, Chuck has asked that memorial donations be made to the Green Springs Elementary Boosters.
