Ellis, 85, retired Haviland Telephone president, died Saturday, January 19, 2019 in Wichita, KS. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019 United Methodist Church, Conway Springs, KS. Interment in Conway Springs, KS.

He was born October 25, 1933 at Haviland, KS to Howard and Eva (Griffin) Ellis and was a 1951 graduate of Haviland HS. Charles served in the US Army from 1953-1956. He married Lucille (Melson) on November 29, 1957.

They moved to Conway Springs in 1959 following the purchase of the local telephone exchange by his family. As telephone service progressed, the company upgraded, modernized and was on the ground floor of technology that changed wire communications forever. Charles served as company president from 1982 until his retirement in 1991.

Charles was a charter member of the Conway Springs Ambulance Volunteer Ambulance Crew where he served as an EMS volunteer for 26 years and as CS Ambulance Director for 18 years. He was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, past clerk of session and involved in numerous church committees, boards and activities. Charles was active in his community serving on the CS City Council, School Board and chartering the CS Chamber of Commerce.

He enjoyed singing in his church choir, men’s quartet and the CS Community Choir for many years. He was preceded in death by his parent; one son Dale Ellis and one sister Norma Jones. Survivors: wife Lucille Ellis; one son Kenneth Ellis of Wichita, KS; two daughters: Elaine Ellis of Belleview, NE; Lisa (Leland) Bittle of Andover, KS; one brother Robert of Haviland, KS; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
