Dr. Charles Wesley Craig, 86, of Americus, GA, passed away Sunday March 10, 2019 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Cornerstone Church. Pastor Kevin Brown will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Andersonville National cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 14th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Aldridge Funeral Services. Mr. Craig was born May 16, 1932 in Flint Michigan, son of the late Herbert Wesley Craig and the late Leona Mae Woods Craig.
Dr. Craig attended elementary and secondary schools in Flint, Michigan and held a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Master’s Degree in School Administration and a Doctor of Philosophy in School Administration from the University of Michigan. Dr. Craig was a teacher and a school administrator for Flint, Michigan Public School District during the 1960’s and 1970’s. He taught at Potter School and later as Principal of Johnson Elementary Schools, Carpenter Road Elementary School and Potter Elementary School.
In 1974, Dr. Craig and his family moved to Alaska. While there, he served as the Principal of Seward Elementary and Junior High School, the Director of Community Programs for Kenai Peninsula Borough School District and the Executive Secretary of the Alaska State Professional Teaching Practices Commission. He retired in 1987.
In 2007, Dr. Craig authored a book entitled, “Life’s Reflections” with the subtitle of “From a Toddler to Eternity”. In 2010, he authored another book, i.e., “Heavenly Poems and Prose” and wrote a third book entitled “A Rear View Mirror of my Life”. Dr. Craig enjoyed golfing, sports, boating, gardening, photography and traveling but most of all, he enjoyed serving the Lord.
He was a member of Cornerstone Church. Survivors include his wife Ruth McGlamry Craig of Americus; daughter Kendra Cole of Duluth, Ga. , three step daughters Stephanie Merritt Williams of Thomaston, Ga.
, Tiffany Fallin (Chad) of Leesburg, Ga. and Christy Fracassa (Kevin) of Athens, Ga. Two brothers and sisters-in-law Jim Craig (Shirley) of Burton, Michigan and Vern Craig (Patsy) of Davison, Michigan.
Fourteen grandchildren Cassandra Deal, Jared Williams, Lou Cole, Grant Cole, Alex Cole, Lauren Cole, Brady Yawn, Mitchell Bush, Mason Bush, Nathan Bush, Caleb Bush, Hunter Fallin, Brinly Fallin and Merritt Fracassa and three great grandchildren.
