Glennville Charlotte Elizabeth Stanfield Speer-Long, age 72 passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was born on April 5, 1946 to James Elias “JE” and Vina Lee Elizabeth Morgan Stanfield and had lived in Glennville all of her life. Charlotte attended Georgia Southern College where she completed courses in Early Childhood Education and became a Teacher’s Aide/Paraprofessional.

She then worked at Seckinger’s Elementary School and Glennville Middle School for 14 years. She also worked in the insurance business, clothing industry/sewing factory as well as a waitress. Being the oldest of six children, she got married at a young age and started a family.

In her spare time, she enjoyed beach trips with her friends, sewing, shopping for her girls, motorcycle rides to adventurous places both in and out of state, spending time cooking and visiting with her family. Charlotte was a hard worker and a classy lady with a generous, loving soul who made sure everyone was always fed and happy. She served on the Hospital Authority Board, the Glennville Recreation Department Committee, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Wreaths of America and was an avid member of the Faith Riders.

A favorite annual event for Charlotte was playing Mrs. Clause alongside her husband, Steve, at various events throughout the area. Charlotte was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church where she served on several committees and was recently awarded Glennville Citizen of the Year. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmy Speer; sister, Juanita Horne and nephew, Tracy Herrin.

She is survived by her husband, Steve W. Long; children, Connie (Jeff) Rogers, Chris (Scott) Corley, Jane (Brian) Wilson, Chip Long and Wade Long; grandchildren, Cortney Rogers, Jes (Tabitha) Rogers, Whitney Stanfield, Dallas Wilson, Aaron Wilson, Sarah Wilson, Haley Bowen, Christopher Long and Matthew Corley; great-grandchildren, Emma Rogers, Cami Rogers, Case Stanfield and Addy Kate Rogers; sisters, Jeanette Kicklighter and JoNell Herrin; brothers, Ernest (Linda) Stanfield and Larry (Maxine) Stanfield; brothers-in-law and sisters in-law, Bobby and Alicia Speer, Milene DeLoach, George and Julia Long, Martha (Roger) Wideman and Connie (Roy) Bell; numerous nieces , nephews, aunts, cousins and other relatives also survive. A visitation will begin at 2:30pm, Thursday, February 28, 2019 with funeral services to follow at 4:00pm from the Chapel of Glennville Funeral Home with the Reverend Ramon Hernandez and Dr. Rick Cason officiating. Interment will follow at Stanfield Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be members of the Faith Riders. In lieu of flowers, please make remembrances to the Glennville Faith Riders c/o Donnie Epperson for Wreath’s Across America, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Tattnall County CARES, PO Box 2356, Reidsville, GA. 30453 or to a charity of your choice in memory of Charlotte Speer-Long.
