Chester R. Smith, 90, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018. Chester was born February 25, 1928 in Benton County, Indiana to Dean Alvin and Myrtle R. (Chaffin) Smith. In Montmorenci, Indiana Chester married Norma Joann Lemming who preceded him in death on March 1, 2017.

Chester retired in 1980 from Millburn Peat Company as a Field Supervisor for 15 years. He also served his country in the United States Army. Chester is survived by two daughters, Terri (David) Ahlberg of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Tammy (Jim) Wilkinson of Rolling Prairie, Indiana; a son, Kevin D. (Debbie) Smith of La Porte, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Lane Ahlberg, Lisa Rigg, Joe Smith, Monica Maike, Erica Hauschild, Travis Hauschild, Brian Wilkinson, and Rochele Wilkinson ; five great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; two sisters, Mary Cox of Lebanon, Indiana and Lillian Mae Eller of El Paso, Texas; and a brother, Bob Smith of West Lafayette, Indiana.

Chester was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Cindy Hauschild; two brothers, Charles E. Smith and Elmer Smith; a sister, Leota Kuckartz; and two half-brothers, Keith Brummett and Kenneth Brunnett. Private services will take place. Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana is in charge of arrangements.
