Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Mrs. Clara Bishop Goolsby, 88, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. Visitation will be Thursday, May 30, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Coleman Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 31, 2019, at 3:00 p.m., also at Coleman Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Eastover Cemetery (County Road 231, Oxford, MS 38655). Bro. Bill Owen will officiate.

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Goolsby was born in Blue Mountain, MS. During high school she enjoyed athletics and was named All-State in Basketball in 1950.

Mrs. Goolsby worked for most of her life in a factory and numerous years as a plant manager at H&H Cutler until retirement. After retirement, she volunteered with the foster grandparent program for more than 15 years touching the lives of many children at both Oxford and Lafayette schools. After serving as a foster grandparent, she volunteered with Oxford and Lafayette County RSVP for the next 12 years.

Mrs. Goolsby was a devoted member of St. Andrew’s Methodist Church. Her vibrant, unforgettable personality impacted everyone she met in some fashion leaving behind a true legacy in living life to the fullest while touching the hearts of others. Mrs. Goolsby is survived by one daughter, Lou Ann (Ed) Hood of Oxford; one son, Paul D. (Shelia) Goolsby of Oxford; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Goolsby of Oxford; one granddaughter, Kristie Goolsby (Andy) Jenkins of Oxford; six grandsons, Mike (Deane) Hood of Brandon, MS, Franklin Bailey (Britney) Hood of Tupelo, MS, and Shawn D. Hood, Chase (Audra) Goolsby, Tyler (Brittney) Goolsby, and Pleas Victor Goolsby, Jr., all of Oxford; two sisters, Kathleen Grose of New Albany, MS, and Frances Cook of Oxford; two brothers, David (Diane) Bishop and George (Elaine) Bishop, both of Oxford; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Goolsby was preceded in death by her husband, Pleas F. Goolsby; her son, Dr. Pleas Victor Goolsby, Sr.; her parents, William Henry and Maggie Carroll Bishop; one great-grandson, Beau Bailey Hood; 6 sisters; and 4 brothers. Donations and memorials in honor of Mrs. Clara Bishop Goolsby may be made to the donor’s choice or St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church (St. Andrew’s UMC, P.O. Box 6 Oxford, MS 38655) or to Le Bonheur Children’s Research Hospital (www. lebonheur.org).
