Clarabelle Hemmen March 23, 1931 – December 21, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Clarabelle Hemmen, age 87, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Earl and Clara (Pieper) Schuck on March 23, 1931. Clarabelle graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1949. On February 18, 1949, Clarabelle was united in marriage with Harm Harold Hemmen at the Congregational Church in Marshalltown, Iowa.

After their marriage, they lived on the Schuck home place and they later moved one mile north where Harm began to farm. In 1960, Clarabelle and Harm moved to Parkersburg. Clarabelle worked at the drug store as a clerk and later as the clerk for the City of Parkersburg.

Clarabelle was a member of the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg. She taught Sunday School and Bible School. Clarabelle sang in the choir and was active in the Ladies Guild.

She was also a den mother for Cub Scouts. Clarabelle enjoyed doing arts and crafts and tole painting. Clarabelle’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Clarabelle died Friday, December 21, 2018, at Crestview Specialty Care in West Branch, Iowa. Clarabelle is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Harm on November 17, 2017; one grandson, Matthew Hemmen; her parents, Earl and Clara Schuck; two brothers, LaVerne and Merle Schuck and one sister, Frances Schwerdtfeger. Clarabelle is survived by one son, Craig (Jean) Hemmen of West Branch; one granddaughter, Jessica (Marty) Jimmerson of West Branch; three great grandchildren, Bryanna, Miranda and Mariah; and three sisters-in-law, Marge Eilderts of Parkersburg, Marge Oligschleger of Brooklyn, Iowa and Sharon Hemmen of Dike, Iowa.

Memorial Services will be 10:00 a.m.. Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the Frist Congregational Church, with burial at the Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg. Memorials may be directed to the First Congregational Church.
